All our experiments are carried out at pressures of 10^(-11) mbar. In order to achieve these ultrahigh vacuums, carefully designed chambers need to be machined and assembled.

Trapping and cooling of quantum particles
In order to trap and cool Erbium and Dysprosium in magneto optical traps, we use one of their narrow-linewidth transitions. These transitions need yellow laser light for Erbium and red one for Dysprosium.
Trapping ultracold quantum particles
In order to investigate quamtumphysics, we need high power lasers to trap atoms. In our experiments we utilise for example green light to realise an optical lattice in which the atoms can be arranged on a periodic crystal structure.
Erwin-Schrödiger-Prize Awarded to Francesca
Francesca recieved the Erwin-Schrödiger-Prize from the Austrian Academy of Science (ÖAW)! This annual award is the most prestigeous ÖAW prize for mathematical and natural science and it is given to exceptional researchers working in Austria. Next to Prof. Peter Zoller (1998) and Prof. Rainer Blatt (2006), the award is now given for the third time to Quantumphysicists in Innsbruck over the last two decades.
Feltrinelli Prize Awarded to Francesca Ferlaino
This week quantum physicist Francesca Ferlaino will receive the Antonio Feltrinelli Giovani Prize in physics. This is the first time the prize, valued at 50,000 Euro, will be awarded to young scientists. It recognizes the achievements of Italian scholars under the age of 40 who have achieved results of outstanding originality and international significance.
Hanns-Christoph Nägerl recieves Wittgenstein award
Prof. Hanns-Christoph Nägerl from the Ultracold group in Innsbruck recieved the prestigeous Wittgenstein award from the FWF. Congratulations to him and his full team!
